We built it so people can quickly answer how long their text is without leaving the page or signing in.

Word Counter FAQ

What does the word counter count?

It counts words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, and lines, and estimates reading time. Words are groups of characters separated by spaces or punctuation; numbers count as words. Character count includes all visible characters, including emojis and symbols; the "without spaces" metric excludes only whitespace.

Is my text stored or sent to a server?

No. The word counter runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded or stored on our servers, so it stays private. We built the tool so you can check length and stats without sending your content anywhere.

Is the word counter free?

Yes. The word counter is free to use with no signup or account required. You can use it as often as you like.

How accurate is the reading time estimate?

Reading time is based on average reading speed (about 200–250 words per minute for typical, non-technical content). It is an estimate meant to give you a rough idea of how long a piece might take to read; actual time will vary by reader and content.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The interface is responsive and works on phones and tablets. You can paste or type text and see the same counts and reading time on any device.
